1. Set your goal and be positive you’ll reach it… A positive attitude creates a chain reaction of positive thoughts, events, & outcomes. It is a catalyst- a spark that creates extordinary results
2. Make a list of everyone who know… from there construct an e-mail/ letter entailing what you’re doing, why you’re doing it and what their support would mean to you. Then e-mail that to your list, not forgetting to ask them to forward it on to their family and friends.
3. Remember the strongest method of fundraising is word of mouth… tell as many people as you can about what you’re doing. Chances are they will tell someone who will tell someone else thus giving you sponsors. Don’t be shy the best way to achieve your goal is to talk to everyone and anyone and just ask… what’s the worst that could happen they’ll say no. At least you can say you asked them.
4. Talk to your work place and see if they will sponsor you, if you don’t ask you’ll never know.
5. Contact your local radio stations and see if you can host a radio –a – thon to get sponsors and to educate people on MS. Contact your local newspapers, and see if they’ll do a piece on you.
6. SOURCE people… if you know anyone with a talent get them to help you… my cousin is a massage therapist and is going to offer free services for donations.
7. If you’re part of a religious group, hold a fundraiser or get up on the podium after the service and ask the attendees to sponsor you.
8. Set yourself mini goals to help you reach your goal. I.e. mine is to raise a min of $1200 a month. If I reach the goal I get to treat myself to a souvenir for when I get to Africa. (If I make it every month that’s 12 souvenirs for me..yeah yeah)
9. Create brochures or a 1 page flyer outlining what you’re doing and your contact details. Get your friends and family involved by giving the flyers to them along with pledge sheets to take to work or to ask their family and friends.
10. Hold events… this is the best method to raising large amounts. People are more likely to sponsor you if they’re having fun, be it a bar night, poker night, auction, recital, club event. If you have a talent and can showcase it or teach it… go that route. The possibilities of events are endless and will go as far as your creativity.
